  9.     When you decide to register as a user contact Mark Berlinger by the
  10. US Postal Service.  Messages may be sent to the author by way of CompuServe

  13.     Here's the deal.  You send a sawbuck (ten dollars American) and a
  14. proper name to the address at the end of this file.  Upon receiving the
  15. consideration you will be contacted through the same BBS or mail.  Please
  16. indicate that the registration is for Notebook for Windows NT.  Direct
  17. payment to the author can be cash, check or money order.  Checks and money
  18. orders must be able to draw funds without a processing fee from a US bank.
  19. If you want to use a credit card, the fee is sixteen dollars.  See the
  20. credit card ordering information below.  The return message will contain
  21. an identification number.  Corporate and site license fees are $50 for 10
  22. PCs to $300 for an unlimited number of PCs.  See the help file for details.

  32.     The optional diskette service is an additional $6 or $8 overseas
  33. cash or check to the author for shipping and handling.  By credit card from
  34. PsL the diskette service is $4 S&H or $6 S&H overseas.

  36.     The name and ID number are entered into the nagware dialog box.
  37. The name and ID number are added to the "notebook.ini" information which
  38. sits in the "winnt" sub-tree.  Notebook will run without the nagware
  39. display when the "ini" file contains a proper name and ID number match.
  40. The proper name will appear in the title bar at program start.
  41.  
  42.     The matching name and ID number will work in minor version number
  43. upgrades containing minor fixes or improvements to Notebook.  As always,
  44. constructive criticism is appreciated.

  46.     Notebook 1.J for Windows has the functionality of Notebook 1.M for
  47. Windows NT.

  49.     Here are some of the features of Notebook for Windows NT:

  51.     Word Wrap, Overtype and Autoindent modes are available.
  52.  
  53.     Margins, title and page number, and page break detection can be set
  54. in the Margins dialog box.
  55.  
  56.     Screen font, tab-stop spacing and number of characters per line can
  57. be set in the Fonts dialog box.
  58.  
  59.     Output to the print spooler is word wrapped.
  60.  
  61.     A print selection command allows selected text of the document to
  62. be sent to the print spooler.  The print all command sends the entire
  63. document to the print spooler.
  64.  
  65.     A two-sided print function halves paper demand.
  66.  
  67.     Files can be opened by command line parameter association.

  69.     A Run dialog is available.
  70.  
  71.     Searches scan the entire document from the current position or from
  72. a particular line;  or just Go To a particular line number;  or go to the
  73. End of the document.

  77.     A find and replace all function is available.  Text does not have
  78. to be selected for the replace buffer string to be inserted into the
  79. document.

  85.     A file delete function allows file deletions with confirmation.

  87.     A file merge function that can be undone allows the insertion of a
  88. text file anywhere into the current document.

  90.     Filespec can be set in Open, Delete, Merge and Run dialog boxes.

  92.     Open and merge functions can insert carriage return line feed pairs
  93. as necessary to format the document.

  95.     Control codes can be edited.

  97.     The select all function allows huge edit operations.

  99.     Beginning Notebook window size and position can be user defined.

  101.     Find and replace history is available in the Go To dialog box.
  102. Find, Replace, Set Find, Set Replace and Line # push buttons are available
  103. on the Go To dialog box.  Set Find and Set Replace buttons allow selected
  104. text to be copied to respective buffers.  If no text is selected, then the
  105. buttons clear the buffers.  The Line # button clears the line number entry.
  106. The find and replace buffers can hold 63 characters each.

  108.     Binary files can be read.  Text can be edited, sent to the
  109. clipboard and pasted into a destination text file.
  110.  
  111.     Printer selection can be made from the Print Setup dialog box.
  112.  
  113.     Client drag function allows ten files to be dropped at a time.
  114.  
  115.     A File Open History list contains the last four files opened.
  116.  
  117.     Page break insertion can be done from the menu.
  118.  
  119.     The case of selected text can be set four ways.
  120.  
  121.     Date and Time strings of selectable format can be inserted.
  122.  
  123.     Window width can be set by character count or can be set to match
  124. the printer page width.

  126.     Long filenames can be saved in NTFS partitions.

  128.     Thanks for the constructive feedback.  More of your suggestions are
  129. likely to be implemented in future versions.

  133.     This version modifies Overtype mode Enter key response and adds
  134. Autoindent mode.  Accelerator keys have been added for file operations and
  135. changed for edit operations.  Printer lines per page and number of pages in
  136. the document information are added to the Margins dialog.  The defects of
  137. disabled Overtype mode after changing the wrap mode, and memory left locked
  138. after trying to print a document with zero byte size are fixed.
  139.  
  140.     Notebook can open files to the limits of available memory.  This
  141. version limits the edit control to 40 kilobytes.  Therefore response to
  142. keyboard input stays constant and not slowed by ponderous memory movement
  143. of a huge EC.  For now the vertical scroll bar range is limited to this
  144. edit control size.  To travel to the next or previous section of a document
  145. press an enabled menu bar push button or type Ctrl+PgUp or Ctrl+PgDn.  Work
  146. will continue to eliminate the vertical scroll segmentation.

  148.     Notebook.exe is bundled with a help file called notebook.hlp,
  149. several useful icon files including one for black and white displays called
  150. notebkbw.ico, and this file called noteinfo.  This is Notebook built with
  151. Visual C++ 1.10.
